Matrix studies are developed in six stages, beginning with the setting of objectives and ending with delivery of the final report of findings. 2. Choosing a Survey Methodology

3. Designing the Questionnaire

Questionnaire design is the most underrated job in survey research. Experience has shown us that client objectives are rarely a simple translation into a set of direct questions. At Matrix, we view questionnaire design as a highly specialized skill. We begin each design with close client collaboration and initial drafts that are refined through a deliberate process of internal and external pre-testing.

In the final analysis, effective questionnaire design requires the successful merging of multiple talents and experiences to ensure the creation of an effective instrument that is greater than the sum of its parts.

4. Quality Control

Statistics are statistics, right?

Not exactly. Reliable data must be collected one respondent at a time, which means that each interview must be as good as the one before it.

Consistent and accurate data collection is a science that demands skilled interviewers and equally skilled project managers. In that spirit, we remain in constant contact with our CATI center, with real-time monitoring and daily reports on project quotas, refusal rates, and sample productivity.

All of our interviewers complete eight hours of formal in-house training. This program includes classroom lectures, videotapes and support materials developed by the Market Research Association. We add customized in-house instruction with live monitoring and instant interviewer feed-back. Supervisors continuously monitor the quality of caller presentation and verify "same night" 10% of all interviews.

When one-on-one intercept interviewing techniques are needed, interviewers are selected for both their research skills and their ability to meet the public. On-site supervisors ensure total control of the interviewing process, high productivity, and reliable results.

5. Data Tabulation

Designing data tables and cross-tabulation analysis of study results at Matrix is yet another point of close collaboration between us and our clients. Dedicated software developed specifically for marketing resesearch allows us to create tables that are highly customized yet easily structured for clarity and quick comprehension.

Some of our special features, such as ranking, category grouping, data transformations, and a wide range of summary statistics, ensure that our tables always have meaning and are not merely a static collection of numbers.

6. Analysis and Final Report

Good research isn't just about the numbers. It's also about time -- how much you need to invest in understanding your results, and how long before you can make the decisions you need to make. Matrix works to expedite the process by providing reports that are written in plain language and presented in a format that is accessible and user-friendly.

We go beyond routine recaps of basic percentages to create a polished, professional final product that directly addresses your original objectives. Standard features include both an executive summary and a detailed findings section, with all findings and statements of fact clearly referenced to specific data tables and supporting graphical charts.
